You know, it's hard to decide. I think there was another QotD where I kind of talked about this. It would depend on what kind of trip, and who I was with. But maybe a top five likely places? New Zealand, Japan, Micronesia (because I think it would be interesting), Ireland, and that swab of western Europe everyone always talks about.
Fortunately it's not on my list, so I don't have a short term deadline. ;)
Honestly, I'd be the odd man out and go after I'm done with college, probably. And I would. I'm not the kind of guy that's going to look back at my early years and regret not doing things. I'll just do them then.
If it's by myself, probably not until I've well settled in with my career, maybe shortly before buying a home, and when my savings are enough that I won't have to fly coach for every flight.
If it's with friends, like a road trip style journey, it could be anytime as long as there is a good plan.
If I'm taking a girl? Hell, you find one for me and I'll be packed in ten minutes. :D
